Our Printshop service allows you to submit interactive stories produced with Demibooks® Composer for publication in Demibooks Storytime, our curated marketplace on the iPad.
Demibooks Composer Pro is currently available in the App Store. Other versions of our platform, Demibooks Composer and Demibooks Composer Studio are no longer available as of Oct 31, 2015. We are no longer accepting book apps created with the legacy Composer 1.1 version.
Demibooks Storytime is our curated multi-publisher store for interactive children's book apps produced with Composer. We publish only the very best publications that are submitted by independent author/illustrators as well as leading publishers such as McGraw-Hill Education and Kane Miller Books. You can submit your app via Printshop for selection into Storytime. Because Storytime is curated with a strict review process, not all apps will be selected for Storytime distribution. We'll let you know as soon as possible, and will send you more details and a contract if your app is selected.
Please note that books selected for Storytime may need to be adjusted to ensure compatibility with the Pro version of Composer and with interface guidelines. For example, Storytime features a stop button in the reading mode similar to that in Composer. All navigation elements should therefore be moved away from the top right corner of the screen.
Usborne Books & More is the direct sales division of Education Development Corporation and is our direct-to-consumer sales team. Storytime apps are also sold in the Storytime Apps section of the Usborne Books & More website. Publishers featured in Storytime benefit from additional sales channels in the Storytime app and the website. Usborne Books & More promotes Usborne and Kane Miller print books as well as Storytime apps through direct sales, home shows, book fairs, fundraisers, grants, and school and library sales. Demibooks also adds digital titles to the Usborne Books & More catalog.
For sales through Storytime, Apple takes 30%, your share as Publisher is 45%, and Demibooks/EDC retains 25%. Sales on the Usborne Books & More site (myubam.com) are divided in the following manner: Publisher 55%, EDC/Demibooks/Usborne Books and More 45%.
Demibooks pays Usborne Books & More sales team commissions from our revenue portion for all Storytime and Myubam.com sales. Demibooks pays out sales revenues from Storytime twice yearly. If your project is selected for Storytime, we will send you a separate contract.
When you export a project from Composer, it creates a .DCB output file that is saved to your Demibooks Composer Books directory on Dropbox or in the iTunes file sharing area of your iPad. The DCB file contains all the image files, movies, sounds and information that make up your book.
Apps submitted to Demibooks Storytime do not require retina resolution images. If you have valid credits for publishing to the App Store that were purchased prior to Oct. 31, 2015, you must submit a retina resolution compliant app. Please see the information below. As of May 1, 2013 all apps submitted to the App Store must be retina resolution compliant. Composer does not currently allow working directly with retina images, but may do so in the future. In the meantime, you can provide a zip file of your retina images when submitting your project through Printshop. For more information on naming conventions for your image files and other details, please visit our support forum. You will need an iPad that supports retina resolution to be able to test your retina compliant apps.
Your account information is used to identify you and any transactions you make on Printshop. From time to time, Demibooks may contact you with important product information and company news. Education Development Corporation acquired Demibooks in September 2015. As of October 31, 2015 several changes have been made to Demibooks products and Printshop publishing services:
To publish to Demibooks Storytime, you need to take several preliminary steps as follows:
For customers with valid publishing credits, you will receive support until your publishing credit is used or expires. As such you may need to update your App Store credentials. Please note that your iOS Developer account credentials are stored encrypted. We value your privacy very highly and we only require your iOS Developer account credentials because we cannot efficiently help you without this information (generating provisioning profiles, dev certificates, etc).
You do not need an Apple developer account to publish to Demibooks Storytime. However, if you have valid publishing credits you will have created an Apple Developer account and provided your account credentials to us.
You also don't need a finished book to get started with Printshop.
With a community of users who are adept at creating interactive books on our platform, you may be able to find others who can help develop your app on the Composer platform. You can always post to our support forum or facebook page. For Demibooks Storytime submissions, we will provide editorial feedback for apps that have been approved for publication.
